India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.13%

India's stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as misfortunes in the metals, consumer durables, and banking areas drove shares lower.


On the nearby NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.13%, while the BSE Sensex 30 list fell 0.19%.

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. (NS: MAHM) was the best performer on the Nifty 50, rising 3.80%, or 32.65 points, to trade at 892.15 at the close. In the meantime, Tata Motors Ltd (NS: TAMO) rose 1.65% or 8.25 points to 509.65, while Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS: HROM) rose 1.27% or 34.10 points to 2717.00 in late trading.


The top entertainers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. (BO: MAHM), which rose 3.92% to 892.90, Larsen and Toubro Ltd. (BO: LART), which was up 1.18% to settle at 1946.85, and State Bank of India (BO: SBI), which gained 1.16% to close at 529.20.


HDFC Bank Ltd. (BO: HDBK), which fell 1.82% to 1571.15 in late exchange, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (BO: HDFC), which fell 1.44% to 2935.45 in the nearby, and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO: MRTI), which fell 1.42% to 7577.05 in the nearby, were the worst performers.


Rising stocks dwarfed declining ones on the Indian National Stock Exchange by 1077 to 666, and 66 finished unaltered; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1949 rose and 1263 declined, while 169 finished unaltered.


Shares of Tata Motors Ltd (NS: TAMO) reached a three-year high, rising 1.65%, or $8.25, to 509.65. Larsen and Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) shares reached an all-time high, gaining 1.18%, or 22.75 cents, to 1946.85 cents.


The India VIX, which estimates the inferred unpredictability of Nifty 50 choices, was down 2.07% to 16.0025.


USD/INR was up 0.20% to 74.049, while EUR/INR rose 0.26% to 85.8520.
