Australian stocks rose after the close on Tuesday, with gains in the energy, resources, metals and mining sectors driving shares higher.
At the close of the Sydney session, the S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.26 percent to a new one-month high.
The best performing stock on the S&P/ASX 200 during the session was Zip Co Ltd, which rose 19.88% or 0.17 points to close at 1.02. Meanwhile, Nanosonics Ltd added 6.57%, or 0.28 points, to end at 4.54 and Whitehaven Coal Ltd rose 6.40%, or 0.39 points, to close at 6.48 in late trade.
The worst performer during the session was Iress Ltd, which fell 6.55%, or 0.77 points, to trade at 10.98 at the close. Flight Centre Ltd fell 5.62% or 0.99 points to 16.63 points and Resolute Mining Ltd dropped 5.45% or 0.02 points to 0.26 points.
On the Sydney Stock Exchange, advancing shares outnumbered declining ones by 660 to 657, while 367 ended unchanged.
Whitehaven Coal Ltd. shares rose 6.40 percent, or 0.39 points, to a 5-year high of 6.48 points.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX index fell 2.03% to 16.25, a new one-month low.
Gold futures for August delivery increased 0.28 percent, or 4.75 cents, to $1,723.85 per ounce.Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for September delivery rose 1.99%, or $1.92 a barrel, and the October Brent contract rose 2.02%, or $2.02 a barrel.
The AUD/USD rate remained unchanged at 0.70, while the AUD/JPY rate rose 0.24% to 95.25.
Futures on the US dollar index fell 0.04% to 106.32.
