Title: Australia stocks higher at the close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.07%

Australian shares rose after the close on Tuesday as gains in the metals, mining, materials, and resources sectors led stocks higher.


At the close in Sydney, the S & P/ASX 200 was up 1.07%.


Among the best performers on the S & P/ASX, 200 were Webjet Ltd., which rose 7.44%, or 0.41 points, to trade at 5.92 at the close. In late trading, Flight Centre Ltd rose 6.71 percent, or 1.27 points, to 20.21.


Appen Ltd was the worst performer, falling 7.41% or 0.66 points to close at 8.25. Nearmap Ltd fell 6.12% or 0.085 points to 1.305 and Nanosonics Ltd dropped 4.76% or 0.24 points to 4.80.


On the Sydney Stock Exchange, rising shares outweighed falling ones by 834 to 600, and 361 ended unchanged.


Shares of Appen Ltd fell to a 3-year low, losing 7.41%, or 0.66 to 8.25, while shares of Nanosonics Ltd fell to a 52-week low, losing 4.76%, or 0.24 to 4.80.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, increased 0.94% to 15.666.


Gold futures for April delivery fell 0.31%, or 5.65, to $1816.15 per troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.59%, or 0.54, to $90.78 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.67%, or 0.62, to $92.07 a barrel.


The Australian dollar fell 0.11% to 0.7117, while the Japanese yen rose 0.22% to 82.20.

Futures on the US dollar index increased 0.31% to 95.685.
