The Cardano Foundation has joined the Linux Foundation. In an announcement released yesterday by the Cardano Foundation, Cardano stated that they have joined the Linux Foundation as a Gold Member. The announcement added that this makes the Cardano Foundation the only non-profit organization active at this level.

The Cardano Foundation also expressed excitement about having the opportunity to work on its commitment to open source while "contributing to the positive advancement of blockchain as a world-changing technology."

At the Open Source Summit in Austin, Dirk Hohndel, the Chief Open-Source Officer of the Cardano Foundation, sat down for an exclusive conversation with Linux creator Linus Torvalds.

Hohndel commented on the event, saying, "Open source is about communities." It's about bringing people together from different companies, countries, and backgrounds. The Cardano Foundation is focused on driving adoption of blockchain technology, and we strongly believe that building a vibrant open source community around our technology is an important part of achieving that goal.

Hohndel also stated that "The Linux Foundation, with its outstanding track record of fostering collaboration on interesting open source technologies, is the perfect place for us."

Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation, also noted that "the Cardano Foundation provides a natural path to adoption of blockchain technologies to enable decentralized computing in a variety of applications."

He added, "With Dirk at the helm of Cardano's open source ecosystem and the strong community already supporting this work, we look forward to leveraging our resources to look to the future together."
