Title: India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.16%

Indian stocks gained after the close on Monday as gains in the technology, IT, and consumer durables sectors drove stocks higher.


At the close on the NSE, the Nifty 50 was up 0.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index was up 0.27%.


Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. was the best performer on the Nifty 50 today, gaining 2.82%, or 55.30 points, to close at 2019.60. Meanwhile, HCL Technologies Ltd. gained 2.08%, or 23.10 points, to close at 1133.15 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. rose 1.94%, or 13.00 points, to 683.65 in late trade.


The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd, which fell 2.49%, or 9.40 points, to close at 367.45 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd fell 2.12%, or 16.25 points, to close at 751.05, while Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd slipped 2.12%, or 15.20 points, to 701.95.


The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd, up 2.92% at 2020.20, HCL Technologies Ltd, up 2.25% at 1132.70, and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, up 1.60% at 3500.70.


Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. was the worst performer, falling 2.03% to 750.80 in late trade. NTPC Ltd. lost 1.71% to close at 126.45 and AXIS Bank Ltd. fell 1.65% to 650.85 at the close.


On the Indian National Stock Exchange, losses outweighed gains with 1456 to 349 and 35 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2371 shares fell and 929 rose while 171 remained unchanged.


India's VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, rose 0.13% to 20.8300, hitting a new six-month high.
