Title: India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.29%

Indian stocks gained after the close on Tuesday as gains in the power, IT, and real estate sectors drove stocks higher.


At the close on the NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.29% to hit a fresh 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.37%.


The best performers on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd, which rose 4.31%, or 55.55 points, to trade at 1343.65 points at the close. Meanwhile, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd gained 3.55%, or 26.25 points, to close at 765.10, while Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd gained 1.93%, or 51.30 points, to 2710.95 in late trade.


JSW Steel Ltd was the worst performer, falling 3.93%, or 26.40 points, to close at 645.70 in late trade. Tata Steel fell 3.32 percent, or 38.80 points, to 1130.25, while Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd fell 1.61 percent, or 6.40 points, to 391.15.


The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HCL Technologies Ltd, up 4.30% at 1344.00 points, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd, up 1.90% at 2710.65 points, and Tech Mahindra Ltd, up 1.58% to close at 1744.00 points.


The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd, which fell 3.32% to 1130.15 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd, which lost 0.89% to close at 7659.80, and ITC Ltd, which fell 0.65% to 221.85 at the close.


On the Indian National Stock Exchange, losses outweighed gains with 964 to 851, and 17 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1854 shares rose and 1478 declined while 61 remained unchanged.


The Indian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, rose 0.45% to 17.7575.
