Title: India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.06%

Indian shares were lower after the close on Thursday as losses in the oil and gas, metals, and real estate sectors led stocks lower.


At the close on the NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.06 percent, while the BSE Sensex 30 index slipped 0.02 percent.


NTPC Ltd had the best performance on the Nifty 50, rising 3.05% or 3.75 points to stand at 126.90 at the close of trade. IndusInd Bank Ltd gained 2.07% or 18.00 points to close at 888.00, while HCL Technologies Ltd gained 1.94% or 25.10 points to 1317.00 in late trade.


Bajaj Auto Ltd was the worst performer, falling 1.89%, or 61.70 points, to close at 3200.80 in late trade. Reliance Industries Ltd fell 1.81%, or 43.40 points, to close at 2359.10, while UPL Ltd slipped 1.54%, or 11.70 points, to 746.65.


Top gainers on the BSE Sensex 30 included NTPC Ltd, which rose 3.13 percent to 126.90, HCL Technologies Ltd, which rose 1.94 percent to 1317.05, and Titan Company Ltd, which rose 1.85 percent to 2446.00.


The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd, which fell 1.94% to 2356.45 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd, which lost 1.34% to close at 1101.10, and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, which fell 0.82% to 7284.35 at the close.


On the Indian National Stock Exchange, losses outweighed gains with 949 to 843 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1799 shares rose while 1456 declined and 95 were unchanged.


India's VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, rose 1.99% to 16.5650.
