Title: India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.25%

Indian stocks traded lower at the close on Tuesday as losses in the auto, fast-moving consumer goods and consumer durables sectors led stocks lower.


At the close on the NSE, the Nifty 50 was down 0.25 percent, while the BSE Sensex 30 index was down 0.29 percent.


Among the best performers on the Nifty 50 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, which rose 3.84% and 7.85 points to close at 212.25 points. Meanwhile, Divi's Laboratories Ltd gained 2.74% or 124.00 points to close at 4654.40 and Nestle India Ltd rose 1.35% or 256.80 points to 19238.80 in late trade.


ITC Ltd was the worst performer, falling 2.56% or 6.00 points to close at 228.60 points in late trade. Bajaj Finance Ltd fell 2.12%, or 152.85 points, to close at 7065.90 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd fell 1.94%, or 14.60 points, to 739.50.


Top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., up 3.84% at 212.30 points, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., up 1.05% to close at 4646.75 points, and Nestle India Ltd., up 1.03% to close at 19197.90 points.


The worst performers were ITC Ltd, which fell 2.73% to 228.30 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd, which lost 2.10% to close at 7068.65, and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd, which fell 1.75% to 1840.45 at the close.


On the Indian National Stock Exchange, losses outweighed gains with 911 to 889 and 19 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1765 stocks rose while 1451 declined and 113 remained unchanged.


The Indian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, rose 2.31% to 16.9525.
