Title: India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.96%

Indian stocks were lower at the nearby on Monday as misfortunes in the land, purchaser durables, and auto areas drove shares lower.


At the close on the NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.96% to a fresh 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index slipped 1.96%.


Bharti Airtel Ltd was the best performer on the Nifty 50, gaining 3.88%, or 27.75 points, to close at 742.10. Meanwhile, Asian Paints Ltd gained 1.07% or 34.40 points to close at 3261.25 and JSW Steel Ltd rose 0.99% or 6.45 points to 657.00 in late trade.


Bajaj Finance Ltd was the worst performer, falling 5.70% or 426.65 points to close at 7058.30 in late trade. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd fell 5.02 per cent or 7.75 points to close at 146.55, while Bajaj Finserv Ltd slipped 4.73 per cent or 847.50 points to 17073.75.


The top gainers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd., up 3.90% at 742.05 points, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO: APN), up 1.14% at 3263.45, and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (BO: PGRD), which gained 0.99% to close at 194.25.


The worst performers were Bajaj Finance Ltd, which fell 5.74% to 7061.65 in late trade, Bajaj Finserv Ltd, which lost 4.69% to close at 17073.20, and Reliance Industries Ltd, which fell 4.42% to 2363.40 at the close.


On the Indian National Stock Exchange, losses outweighed gains at 1529 to 256 and 37 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2419 shares fell and 883 rose while 161 remained unchanged.


The Indian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, rose 17.92% to 17.5200.
