Title: Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 3.94%

Japanese stocks rose after the close on Thursday as gains in the transport, rubber and real estate sectors drove stocks higher.


At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was up 3.94%.


Among the best performers on the Nikkei 225 were Showa Denko K.K., which rose 10.40%, or 188.00 points, to close at 1,995.00. GS Yuasa Corp. gained 10.03%, or 205.00 points, to close at 2,249.00 points, while Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. gained 9.74%, or 1,575.00 points, to 17,750.00 points in late trade.


Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. was the worst performer, falling 1.07%, or 40.00 points, to close at 3,715.00 points. Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. fell 0.60% or 2.00 points to 330.00 and Seven & I Holdings Co., Ltd. lost 0.26% or 14.00 points to 5,419.00.


On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, advancers outweighed decliners by 3444 to 236 and 93 ended unchanged.


The Nikkei Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, rose 1.40% to 29.70.


Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.86%, or 2.02, to $110.72 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodity trading, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 2.98%, or 3.31, to $114.45 a barrel, while the April gold futures contract fell 0.13%, or 2.60, to settle at $1,985.60 a troy ounce.


The USD/JPY rose 0.14% to 115.99, while the EUR/JPY was up 0.05% at 128.34.


The US Dollar Index futures rose 0.10% to 98.05.
