Title: Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.25%

Australian shares gained after the close on Tuesday as gains in the gold, energy and IT sectors drove stocks higher.


At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.25%.


The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Resolute Mining Ltd , which rose 15.56% or 0.04 points to trade at 0.26 at the close. Meanwhile, Regis Resources Ltd added 10.69% or 0.16 points to end at 1.61 and Polynovo Ltd was up 10.11% or 0.14 points to 1.47 in late trade.


The worst performers of the session were Omni Bridgeway Ltd , which fell 4.24% or 0.15 points to trade at 3.39 at the close. Unibail Rodamco Westfield was down 3.96% or 0.15 points to end at 3.64 and Mirvac Group was down 2.90% or 0.06 points to 2.01.


Rising shares outnumbered falling ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 835 to 513 and 334 ended unchanged.


Shares in Unibail Rodamco Westfield (ASX:URW) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.96% or 0.15 to 3.64.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 0.86% at 18.79.


Gold futures for August delivery rose 0.30%, or 5.35, to $1,806.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for August delivery rose 1.36%, or 1.48, to $109.91 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.11%, or 0.13, to settle at $113.37 a barrel.


AUD/USD fell 0.82% to 0.68, while AUD/JPY fell 0.56% to 92.62.


US dollar index futures rose 0.38% to 105.31.
