Title: Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.08%

Australian shares rose after Friday's close as gains in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary and Resources sectors led shares higher.


At the Sydney close, the S&P/ASX 200 was up 1.08 per cent.


The best performing stocks of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Pointsbet Holdings Ltd, which rose 16.40% or 0.41 points and was trading at 2.91 at the close. Meanwhile, Tabcorp Holdings Ltd added 4.66% or 0.05 points to close at 1.01 and Credit Corp Group Ltd (ASX:CCP) rose 4.19% or 0.93 points to 23.10 points at the close of trading.


The worst performer of the session was Appen Ltd, which fell 20.92% or 1.73 points to trade at 6.54 at the close. Resolute Mining Ltd fell 5.17% or 0.02 points to close at 0.28 and CSR Ltd declined 4.69% or 0.23 points to 4.67.


Bullish stocks outnumbered bearish stocks on the Sydney Stock Exchange with 770 versus 605 and 427 ending unchanged.


CSR Ltd shares retreated to 52-week lows; they lost 4.69% or 0.23 points to 4.67.


The S&P/ASX 200 VIX index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, fell 2.49% to 15.30.


June delivery gold futures rose 0.38%, or 7.05, to $1,854.65 per troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude oil for July delivery was unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 reaching $114.09 per barrel, while the Brent crude oil contract for August delivery rose 0.17% or 0.19 trading at $114.36 per barrel.


AUD/USD was unchanged by 0.52% at 0.71, while AUD/JPY rose by 0.51% to 90.70.


US dollar index futures fell 0.22% to 101.64.
