Title: Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.15%

Australian stocks rose after Friday's close, thanks to gains in the IT, gold, metals and mining sectors.

The S&P/ASX 200 closed up 1.15 percent in Sydney.


The best performer in the S&P/ASX 200 during the session was Zipper Co Ltd., which rose 6.90 percent, or 0.06 points, to close at 0.93. Meanwhile, Evolution Mining Ltd. added 6.29 percent, or 0.22 points, to close at 3.72 and Altium Ltd. rose 6.19 percent, or 1.68 points, to 28.84 in late trading.


The worst performers of the session were Unibail Rodamco Westfield, which lost 8.89% or 0.48 points to close at 4.92 points. Woodside Petroleum Ltd fell 3.75 percent or 1.12 points to 28.77 after Nufarm Ltd fell 4.12 percent or 0.25 points to close at 5.82.


Rising stocks outnumbered falling stocks on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 904 to 525, while 370 closed unchanged.


The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, fell 4.10 percent to 17.65.


The AUD/USD rate remained unchanged at 0.71, while the AUD/JPY rate rose 0.37 percent to 90.39.


U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.19% to 102.95.
