Title: Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.41%

Australian shares rose after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the energy, financials and consumer staples sectors drove shares higher.


At the close in Sydney, the S & P/ASX 200 rose 1.41%.


The best performer in the S&P/ASX 200 was Pointsbet Holdings Ltd, which rose 9.02%, or 0.23 points, to close at 2.78. Meanwhile, Unibail Rodamco Westfield gained 6.87%, or 0.27 points, to close at 4.20, while Hub24 Ltd added 6.17%, or 1.10 points, to 18.93 in late trading.


Megaport Ltd was the worst performer, falling 4.34% or 0.23 points to close at 5.07 in late trade. APA Group fell 4.03%, or 0.45 points, to close at 10.71, and GUD Holdings Ltd. dropped 3.52%, or 0.28 points, to 7.68.


On the Sydney Stock Exchange, advancers outweighed decliners with 843 shares to 613, and 377 ended unchanged.


Shares of Megaport Ltd fell to a three-year low, down 4.34%, or 0.23, to 5.07, and shares of GUD Holdings Ltd fell to a 52-week low, down 3.52%, or 0.28, to 7.68.


The S & P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S & P/ASX 200 options, fell 11.08% to 20.68.


The AUD/USD was unchanged at 0.70, while the AUD/JPY rose 0.64% to 94.46.


The US dollar index futures fell 0.32% to 103.93.
