Title: Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.64%

Australian shares were down after the close on Monday, as losses in the gold, energy, and commodities sectors led stocks lower.


At the close in Sydney, the S & P/ASX 200 fell 0.64% and hit a new 52-week low.


Pointsbet Holdings Ltd, which rose 18.60%, or 0.40 points, to close at 2.55 on the S&P/ASX 200, was the session's best performer. Meanwhile, Appen Ltd gained 9.68% or 0.51 points to close at 5.78, and Kogan.com Ltd rose 6.79% or 0.19 points to 2.99 in late trading.


Champion Iron Ltd was the worst performer, falling 11.94% or 0.72 points to close at 5.31.

Silver Lake Resources Ltd. fell 9.85%, or 0.16 points, to close at 1.47, and Whitehaven Coal Ltd. dropped 9.20%, or 0.46 points, to 4.54.


On the Sydney Stock Exchange, falling stocks outweighed rising ones by 967 to 501, and 346 ended unchanged.


The VIX of the S&P/ASX 200, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, fell 1.68% to 23.25.


The AUD/USD currency pair rose 0.78% to 0.70, while the AUD/JPY currency pair gained 0.50% to 94.05.


The US dollar index futures fell 0.30% to 104.18.
