Australian stocks collapsed after the shut on Wednesday, as declines in the IT, A-REITs and energy sectors led shares down.
At the close in Sydney, the S & P/ASX 200 dropped 1.27%, reaching a new 52-week low.
Polynovo Ltd was the best performer in the S&P/ASX 200, increasing 4.82% or 0.06 points to close at 1.30. Meanwhile, Lynas Rare Earths Ltd gained 4.22%, or 0.36 points, to close at 8.89 and Suncorp Group Ltd rose 3.53%, or 0.37 points, to 10.85 in late trading.
Megaport Ltd was the worst performer, falling 11.07% or 0.65 points to close at 5.22 in late trade.
Charter Hall Group fell 7.09%, or 0.81 points, to close at 10.61, while Seek Ltd. slipped 6.82%, or 1.48 points, to 20.23.
On the Sydney Stock Exchange, falling shares outweighed rising ones by 1082 to 433, and 324 ended unchanged.
Shares of Megaport Ltd fell to a 3-year low, falling 11.07% or 0.65 to 5.22. Shares of Charter Hall Group fell to a 52-week low, dropping 7.09%, or 0.81 to 10.61. Shares of Seek Ltd fell to a 52-week low, losing 6.82% or 1.48 to 20.23.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, increased 1.39% to 22.16, setting a new 52-week high.
AUD/USD was unchanged at 0.69, while AUD/JPY rose 0.01% to 93.06.
Futures on the US dollar index fell 0.57% to 104.75.
