Title: Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.45%

Japanese stocks rose after the close on Monday, with gains in the precision instruments, chemicals, petroleum and plastics, and non-metal minerals sectors driving stocks higher.


At the close of trading in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.45%.


Among the best performers on the Nikkei 225 were NTN Corp., which rose 11.68%, or 25.00 points, to close at 239.00. In late trading, Fujikura Ltd rose 7.33%, or 51.00 points, to 747.00, and NTT Data Corp rose 6.34%, or 120.00 points, to 2,014.00.


In late trading, DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. was the worst performer, falling 13.06% or 665.00 points to close at 4,425.00 in late trading. Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. dropped 9.11% or 255.00 points to close at 2,545.00 and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. fell 8.93% or 51.00 points to 520.00.


On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, falling stocks outweighed rising ones by 2160 to 1427, and 187 ended unchanged.


Fujikura Ltd. shares rose to a 3-year high, up 7.33%, or 51.00 to 747.00.


The Nikkei Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, fell 9.32% to 26.75.


Crude oil for delivery in July lost 0.53%, or $0.58, to $108.05 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodity trading, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.80%, or $0.89, to $110.66 a barrel, while the June gold futures contract fell 0.14%, or $2.56, to settle at $1,805.64 a troy ounce.


The AUD/JPY pair rose 0.04% to 129.24, while the EUR/JPY pair gained 0.16% to 134.72.


The US dollar index futures fell 0.13% to 104.49.
