Title: Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.66%

Japanese stocks rose after Friday's close as gains in the precision instruments, textiles and chemicals, oil and plastics sectors led shares higher.


At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.66%.


The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nikon Corp. which rose 7.25% or 108.00 points to trade at 1,598.00 points at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Yusen K.K. added 6.40% or 680.00 points to close at 11,310.00 and Toyota Tsusho Corp. rose 5.31% or 245.00 points to close at 4,855.00 points at the close of trading.


The worst performer of the session was Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. which declined by 3.02% or 76.00 points to trade at 2,441.00 points at the close. Marubeni Corp. declined 2.56% or 35.00 points to close at 1,334.50 points and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531) declined 2.20% or 58.00 points to close at 2,573.00 points.


Bullish stocks outnumbered bearish stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2,180 to 1,327 and 245 closed unchanged.


Shares of Nikon Corp. rose to a 3-year high; they rose 7.25% or 108.00 to 1,598.00.


The Nikkei Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, fell 3.29% to 23.50.


July delivery crude oil fell 0.20%, or 0.23, to $113.86 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodity trading, Brent crude for August delivery fell 0.12% or 0.14 to settle at $114.03 a barrel, while the June gold futures contract rose 0.44% or 8.21 to settle at $1,855.81 an ounce.


USD/JPY fell 0.02% to 127.11, while EUR/JPY rose 0.22% to 136.64.


US dollar index futures were down 0.25% at 101.61.
