Title: Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.84%

Japan's stocks gained after the close on Monday as gains in the food, chemicals, oil and plastics, and pulp and paper sectors led shares higher.


At the close of trading in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.84%.


Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. was the best performer on the Nikkei 225, rising 12.95%, or 75.00 points, to close at 654.00. Mitsubishi Corp. gained 3.98%, or 152.00 points, to close at 3,972.00, while Minebea Mitsumi Inc. gained 3.53%, or 77.00 points, to close at 2,256.00 in late trading.


J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. was the worst performer, falling 5.63% or 66.00 points to close at 1,107.00. Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. fell 4.24%, or 47.00 points, to close at 1,061.00, and Nikon Corp. dropped 4.17%, or 63.00 points, to 1,449.00.


On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, advancers outweighed decliners 2586 to 977, and 222 ended unchanged.


Shares of Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. rose to a 3-year high, gaining 12.95%, or 75.00 to 645.00.


Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, rose 4.18% to 24.41.


The AUD/JPY pair gained 0.20% to 135.46, while the EUR/JPY pair gained 0.26% to 141.34.


Futures on the US dollar index fell 0.08% to 104.83.
