Title: Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.86%

Japanese stocks rose after the close on Wednesday as gains in the insurance, banking and financial services sectors drove stocks higher.


At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.86%.


Among the best performers on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co, Ltd, which gained 18.45% or 630.00 points to close at 4,045.00 points. Subaru Corp. gained 5.42% or 99.50 points to close at 1,936.00, while Mitsubishi Motors Corp. gained 4.69% or 15.00 points to 335.00 in late trade.


CyberAgent Inc. was the worst performer, falling 2.81% or 41.00 points to close at 1,418.00 at the close of trading. Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. fell 2.45% or 25.00 points to close at 995.00, and Chiyoda Corp. dropped 2.31% or 11.00 points to 465.00.


On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, rising stocks outweighed falling ones at 2070 to 1469, and 225 closed unchanged.


Shares of Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co, Ltd rose to a 52-week high; up 18.45% or 630.00 to 4,045.00.


Nikkei volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, rose 9.18% to 22.72.


Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.15%, or 1.17, to $103.22 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodity trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 1.10%, or 1.18, to $108.43 a barrel, while June gold futures fell 0.78%, or 15.30, to settle at $1,943.70 a troy ounce.


The USD/JPY fell 0.23% to 128.60, while the EUR/JPY rose 0.05% to 139.10.


US dollar index futures were 0.23% lower at 100.74.
