Title: Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.74%

Japan's stocks were down after the close on Monday as losses in the shipbuilding, precision instruments, and transportation equipment sectors led shares lower.


At the close of trading in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.74%, hitting a new 1-month low.


Among the best performers on the Nikkei 225 were shares of Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co. Ltd., which rose 3.58%, or 101.00 points, to close at 2,924.00 points. In late trading, Softbank Group Corp. gained 3.03% or 145.00 points to close at 4,933.00, while Subaru Corp. gained 2.55% or 62.00 points to close at 2,496.00.


Inpex Corp. was the worst performer of the session, falling 9.44% or 154.00 points to close at 1,477.00. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. dropped 9.18% or 478.00 points to close at 4,729.00, and Chiyoda Corp. fell 8.24% or 35.00 points to 390.00.


On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, falling stocks outweighed rising ones by 2742 to 836, and 203 ended unchanged.


Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, rose 7.77% to 27.31, hitting a new 1-month high.


Among USD/JPY pairs, 0.13% fell to 134.79, while EUR/JPY rose 0.09% to 141.80.


The US Dollar Index futures were 0.26% lower at 104.22.
