Title: Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.14%

Japan's stocks were down after the close on Wednesday as losses in the transportation, precision instruments, and real estate sectors led shares lower.


At the close of trading in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was down 1.14%, hitting a new 1-month low.


The best performer on the Nikkei 225 was Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co. Ltd., rising 3.76%, or 130.00 points, to close at 3,585.00. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corp. gained 2.32%, or 18.20 points, to close at 801.80, while Denka Co. Ltd. added 1.68%, or 55.00 points, to 3,320.00 in late trading.


Chiyoda Corp. was the worst performer, falling 5.50% or 26.00 points to close at 447.00. Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. fell 5.20%, or 57.00 points, to close at 1,040.00, and Osaka Gas Co. Ltd. fell 5.10%, or 130.00 points, to 2,420.00.


On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, falling stocks outweighed rising ones by 2909 to 659, and 186 ended unchanged.


The Nikkei Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, rose 0.97% to 26.04.


The USD/JPY rate fell 0.65% to 134.59, while the EUR/JPY rate rose 0.07% to 141.18.


The US dollar index futures fell 0.60% to 104.71.
