Title: Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.15%

Japan's stocks were down after the close Wednesday as losses in the gas and water, pulp and paper, and marine transportation sectors led shares lower.


At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was down 1.15%.


Among the best performers on the Nikkei 225 were Eisai Co., Ltd., which rose 5.87%, or 342.00 points, to close at 6,167.00. Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd gained 3.17% or 105.00 points in late trading to close at 3,420.00, while Ajinomoto Co., Inc gained 2.75% or 91.00 points to close at 3,403.00.


Inpex Corp. was the worst performer, falling 10.05%, or 149.00 points, to close at 1,333.00 in late trading. Chiyoda Corp. fell 8.62% or 37.00 points to close at 392.00 and Fukuoka Financial Group, Inc. fell 7.87% or 194.00 points to 2,272.00.


On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, falling stocks outweighed rising ones by 2300 to 1193, and 261 ended unchanged.


Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, fell 2.31% to 22.46.


The USD/JPY pair fell 0.21% to 135.59, while the EUR/JPY pair fell 0.28% to 139.10.


The US dollar index futures fell 0.04% to 106.28.
